Latest update from our October meeting
Our planned open day is likely to be delayed until spring 2011. The electricity supply, health and safety and insurance issues are to be resolved before we can start planning our celebrations.
Initially the pump will be turned electronically every few weeks for maintenance reasons; in future possibly by water if extra funding can be found.
The committee agreed to draw up a 'wish list' for the site, which will be discussed at future meetings in partnership with Cardiff council. Please send us your ideas and we will publish them here.

Pump reinstalled on 14th October!
On a cold Thursday morning, Penybryn engineers crane-lifted the pump back onto site. Due to the wide publicity quite a crowd gathered to watch, including FOMWP committee members, press, politicians, local residents past and present, and volunteers who had restored the pump in the 1970s and 1980s.
Besides Cardiff Council and Cadw who granted funds for the restoration, credit must go to Opus International Consultants and Penybryn Engineering who project managed and restored/reinstalled the pump respectively, to a very high standard. The pump looks fantastic and we are assured that with the right maintenance 'she' will last in excess of 100 years. Over the next few weeks the work will be completed and once again the wheel will turn, though for the time being powered by electricity rather than water (a future project?).
FoMWP will now turn its attention to working with Cardiff Council to ensure proper maintenance is carried out and we intend holding an open day to celebrate the restoration. Other plans include publicising the pump for educational purposes, holding regular open days, organising volunteer work and documenting the public's memories and experiences of the pump and surrounding area.

Bats Roosting in the Structure
After investigations, bats have found to be roosting in the water pump's crevices. Consequently, the restoration has been delayed for several weeks while experts re-home the bats. We'll keep you updated.
As a result, we have decided to postpone our FoMWP meeting planned for 15th October. A rescheduled meeting date will follow shortly.
