Wheel and pump removed
The Wheel and pump have now been removed. BBC Wales Today covered the event on their 6 O'clock news programme - Click here to view the removal and find out why the pump is so important. The old timbers have been recycled and taken to Forest Farm where they will contribute to its bio-diverse habitat.
During the removal, the crane was used to lift a section of iron bridge that had been lying covered in vegetation just outside the compound. The bridge was originally located on the Forest Farm section of the Glamorganshire canal. In the photographs, the grooves made by ropes pulling the barges can clearly be seen. The bridge, a listed structure, now lies in the compound for safe keeping and may be cleaned up in future.

Overview
CADW and site owners, Cardiff Council are supporting the current restoration.
The structure is in the process of being dismantled and taken to Penybryn Engineering workshops for restoration. It is hoped for the structure to be reassembled on site later in the summer, weather permitting.
The project has suffered several months of delay due to bats using the structure as their summer roost. The appropriate agencies have now provided alternative roosts and the restoration is underway.
It is hoped that FoMWP along with Cardiff Council and other agencies will hold a celebration 'open day' on site, once the restoration is completed. Watch this space...!
