1970s-1980s Restoration
Looking north, a view of the pump undergoing the 1970-80s
restoration, surrounded by scaffolding. Note the derelict
building of the former Melingriffith
tin plate works upstream.
The pump underwent a previous restoration between 1974 and 1989. Volunteers from Oxford House Industrial History Society gave up their weekends to work on the project, which was funded by grants and won a prestigious Prince's Trust award. On completion it was handed back to Cardiff council and fell into disrepair. The FoMWP are privileged to have OHIHS member Robin Williams, who took part in the restoration, as one of its committee advisers.
